Hi there,
Identifying myself as a hardcore designer, my interest grew from my first junior-high-school year sitting with my friend who was a passionate sketcher doodling all over any pieces of papers and textbooks. I was 12 then, and together we came up with many crazy ideas like “super-devastating” monsters, cars, shoes, and even funny comics. It’s been 12 years since then, and I still do appreciate that time during into which I dedicated myself. And it turned out to be my life now.
Admission to University of Notre Dame in 2012 was another big thing marking a great change in my design philosophy and even my attitude of life. With maturer understanding I realized the essence of design lies in the affordance of better experience between the designs and users, in whatever form they exist. And that has been leading my graduate research in exploring the balance between the User, Experience, and Design, which correspond well to my background of two years’ education of human engineering.
So far my design practice has been reaching to products & transportation designs, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), visual communication, data analysis, and a little bit of furniture. While experience from various categories of design has enhanced my skills and visions, the design thinking process, about which includes the consideration of design medium, targets of users, interaction/manufacturing control, and even the failures, is what I did discover the most important equipment a qualifying designer nowadays should possess.
Best,
Yifan
