Studio Production Designer
New York Times Marketing Services Studio
New York, NY
Apr 2007 - Jun 2013 (6 years 2 months)
Busy in-house agency with tight deadlines for leading daily print newspaper. Daily production and resizing of house ads; promotional brochures and event campaign materials including signage; production and versioning of direct mail campaigns; brand maintenance, QC, color correction, general pre-press. Conceptualization and creation of advertising comps for advertiser sales pitches. Art direction and production of inserts, catalogs, ads, e-mails, web banner ads and other promotional materials for the New York Times Store (retail merchandising division).
"One day in 2008 my frustrated boss handed me the cover of a Store insert for the holidays she had contracted out of house: ‘can you do something with this?’ she asked. She was hoping to breathe new life into a neglected profit center and the design she had been given was completely inadequate for what was needed to be a make-or-break effort. The next day she was beaming over the completely reworked designs i presented to her. For the next five years i produced nearly all the promotional materials for the new york Times Store, implementing one complete rebranding and several refinements of style and approach.”
KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS:
• Fully fluent in a Macintosh publishing environment: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat.
• Basic proficiency in standard Office tools: Powerpoint, MS Word, Excel.
• While print is definitely my hands-on specialty, I have worked in basic digital space, albeit mostly at either low-tech static design creative and branding direction to designers.
• Fast, accurate, careful, literate.
