I am Hector Anthony Joseph Ortiz 3rd – a passionate designer with an interest in accessories and apparel design. I currently have 10+ years’ experience as the Head of Design at Bijoux Inc. developing for brands Eastsport, Fuel, and Bodhi. My leadership role has allowed me to be accountable for online and offline design output and has proven successful with multiple mass retailers (Walmart, Staples, JCPenney, and Amazon). I have obtained immense knowledge in my years designing backpacks for all ages in mass market products. Continuing to push boundaries and sales with each new season. I am a problem solver, reliable, strategic, aware, and self-motivated. My longevity with Bijoux Inc. speaks to my strengths, I was hired as their Assistant Designer before being promoted to Head of Design after 9 months of employment.
I was a design assistant for Oved Apparel under their brand, Company 81. The time spent at Oved apparel was exciting and challenging. I collaborated with the Design Director and Lead Designer designing woven shirts and shorts for the division.
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in illustration. My original goal was to be an illustrator for Marvel Comics or Children’s books. During my Junior year at RISD, I got into print making and silk screen. I grew fond of designing patterns for garments and started designing graphic tees. My senior body of work, I combined my love for comic book characters and pattern design into fashion illustrations.
I developed a strong foundation as a leader when I was a Resident Assistant (RA) at RISD. Overseeing, 50 students on my floor.
Outside of work, I dabble in digital art when time permits. I love to work with multi mediums (pencil, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, colored pencil) when creating. I value my time spent with loved ones and my dog, Zoey. My health and my family are the core of my being. I always strive to be a better version of the person I was yesterday.
