Industrial Design is originally the profession of shaping form and function of industrially manufactured products.

However, the separation of physical and non-physical products is continuously becoming obsolete. New approaches such as design thinking, human-centered design or experience design take this development into account broadening the designers professional scope. The latter increasingly becomes an inter-disciplinary facilitator who translates technological feasibilities into products which satisfy a legitimate need and are both easy to use and beautiful.
