'NARRATIVE' - HEINRICH HOFFMAN

The German storybook ‘Struwelpeter’ by Heinrich Hoffman was the main inspiration for this project. The stories within the book are written and displayed as children’s stories but actually all have a deeper and darker side, as all the characters end up dead. The trio of triptics (9’ x 9’) are all on small canvases and created by cutting out paper or materials and hand stitching them onto the canvas to give the crude child – like feeling to them. The larger pieces (5” x 3”5’) are created using layers of tissue paper and acrylic paint. All of these pieces were created from life. Meaning I used Playmobile toys and set up the scenes myself to draw and created the images from.
