A final year university research project into the problem ‘antisocial behaviour and other crime on public transport’.
KEY FACTORS.
- 7,617,000,000 passenger journeys made in 2011/12 – Public transport is over capacity and crowded
- Recession has forced many people to resort to petty crime such as theft
- Pick pocketing forms the largest portion of theft, hence why this is the main focus of the project
- Largest portion of theft is phones followed by bags/luggage
- This usually occurs because our awareness is low, we are tired, we are even asleep, we are talking with friends and so on
- Thieves are also opportunists, so if they can have access to your phone or wallet and so on, they will take it
