The Great Gatsby Time Capsule
For the grade 12 English Independent Study Unit, the students were asked to create a time capsule of the books they have been reading independently. As an exemplar for the students to follow, this time capsule was made of the book The Great Gatsby. Once the students have collected or made all of the artifacts for their time capsule, they will write brief statements labelling each piece to later present its significance to the class. They should be defining the item's relationship to the text in terms of these major talking points: character analysis, themes, culture/ context, important quotes, the plot of the story and any questions the story raises.
