Since 1978, designed and built cabinetry, furniture and garden environments inspired by Japanese design and International Craftsman movement and the architectural philosophy of Christopher Alexander. These projects involve joinery and environmentally sensitive design, and close attention to rhythm and proportion as well as material qualities. Portfolio available on request. Wiltshire, England 1979 : Main 'chippy' (carpenter) at an art & craft center where I did basic repairs on woodwork and built a massive door of elm wood. Seattle 1981:Boat Builder's Apprentice : Served as apprentice to master boat builder Erv Bakken. Miscellaneous woodwork related to restoration of 65' double ender, including railings with double-stepped scarf joints (iroko wood), rolling bevels for sloping windows in the cockpit, complex fittings for the scuppers (brass), interior cabinet work in mahogany. Have worked as finish carpenter self-employed and for high-end contractors while pursuing my career as a fine art painter.

Have taught drawing and painting since 1996 (Pratt Fine Art Center, Seattle). Since moving to Portland in 1998, have taught at many institutions. In addition to PNCA mentioned above, I've taught at Oregon College of Art and Craft, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology and my own studio: First Light Studio (formerly Tiger Cave Studio).
