Freelance Industrial Designer

Apr 2010 - Jan 2014 (3 years 9 months)
In April 2010, I was approached by Brian May, of Maycreate Marketing, about a new product development venture called US+U. As a small start-up, US+U did not have a full-time design department, but needed all the design services that a product development company requires. I was hired on a freelance basis to provide design services from concept to production. The primary focus of US+U is developing accessories for tablet computing, especially the iPad. I have assisted the company with concept sketching, prototype fabrication, engineering for production, and illustrations for patent applications. Our projects have ranged from molded accessories to soft goods, such as cases. All of the released products have received critical acclaim from several publications, including the Wall Street Journal, the LA Times, Mac Observer, and Macworld. Design Engineer
Dalton, GA
Jan 2007 - Jan 2009 (2 years)
I was responsible for designing and engineering my own assigned projects, as well as contributing to collaborative efforts with my colleagues. I met directly with customers during conceptualization and consulted with them throughout refinement to ensure that their needs were met. I routinely managed multiple projects at various stages of manufacturing, and coordinated with outside vendors to ensure we shipped to our customers on time. Due to my previous experience with Regal+Lager and my understanding of Mandarin, I also became the company’s unofficial liaison to our manufacturing partners in China. I helped coordinate production and even traveled to China for a second time in June 2007 to work with another overseas manufacturer. Due to the financial crisis, Displaycraft was forced to let me go.

CAD Draftsman, Graphic Designer, Textile Designer, Colorist
Dalton, GA
Jun 1999 - Jan 2005 (5 years 7 months)
In June 1999, while still in High School, I began working for the Mohawk Engineering department. I modified and maintained blueprints of manufacturing facilities and equipment. I also worked directly with the engineers to draft several pieces of custom manufacturing machinery. In May of 2002, I moved to the Creative Services department to work as a graphic designer. In July of 2003 I joined the commercial product development team. I designed textile patterns and worked on a carpet simulation project that used a color-correct database of the company’s yarns. My involvement in the project was focused primarily on matching yarns to color values for the yarn database. During the course of my work, I developed and refined a series of system logics that led to more accurate simulations of multi-colored and space-dyed yarns.
