A little more design freedom was accepted for these Reltec fiber optic network cards.
This original concept changes the mounting angle of the fiber connectors on the card which results in reducing the overall length of both the fiber cards and chassis. To prevent the fibers from exceeding minimum bend radius at this new angle, a fiber channel was incorporated into the bottom of the face plate. A hinged cover on the lower ejector handle covered the fiber channel and provided a finished look to the overall shelf. Due to the hazard of a hinged cover potentially damaging a fiber cable, the design was revised. A half width lower ejector handle reduces the potential danger of damaging the fiber cables when they are being routed through the channel.
