Whilst at TS Design, I was responsible for leading an array of technically challenging projects from concept to manufacture within sectors such as medical, industrial and consumer. Due to the consultancy nature of the business, projects needed to be completed within very tight time-scales as well as maintaining coherent client communication. All design solutions delivered paid thorough consideration to function, mechanics, aesthetics, cost, commercial viability, sustainability, manufacturing implementation, assembly and quality control.

As a Design Advisor for the programme, I engaged with over 60 SMEs across Wales. In many instances, I assisted companies in applying ‘design thinking’ within their business, as well as helping to identify new product opportunities and competitive advantages that could be leveraged using design.

Previously responsible for the mechanical design element of all new products developed by the company. This typically involved the design of injection-moulded enclosures and user interfaces to be used in conjunction with electronic control systems. Activities included: presentation and evaluation of design concepts; generation of 3D CAD parts and assemblies; analysis of tolerances; sourcing and selection of materials and components; physical testing of rapid prototypes; and manufacturing preparation; as well as management of all mechanical design related documentation.

As a Design Engineer, I was responsible for reverse engineering and development of existing products; as well as generation and management of 2D/3D CAD data in order to outsource the production of machined, die and sand cast parts to the Far East. In this role, I worked closely with a team of strategic buyers to establish project priorities and time-scales to help meet customer demands. In addition, I was accountable for investigating and processing engineering change notes (ECNs) through an electronic tracking system; creating/updating master parts, bills of materials (BOMs) and routings via a materials resource planning database (MRP).

Also, jointly responsible for the implementation of a formal new product development process, with a focus on design validation and verification methods.
