Taking attendance is part of nearly every school teacher's classroom routine. SUNGARD'S Attendance Tracker is a tablet-based application that was designed to make this daily task easier, faster, and more convenient.
Since this was one of the first applications for the SUNGARD UX team to build for a tablet, we were interested to see what advantages a teacher could gain using a tablet for this task. So, as designers, we compared the paper/pencil routine vs a digital routine and looked for opportunities where technology could speed up the task. We had to familiarize ourselves with mobile patterns and see where these patterns matched a teacher's behavior. To get that feedback, the SUNGARD development team worked with a group of geographically dispersed teachers to learn, review, and test the progression of this application.
