My name is Francisco Tenorio and I double majored in Architectural Design and Housing Studies with and emphasis on housing technology at the University of Minnesota. These two degrees touch on two different fields of studies but are similar enough that many lessons from one field of study can be used to bring a new perspective to the other. It has also allowed me to combine creative design skills with knowledge of the housing industry to create an expansive skill set and knowledge base.
I’ve had great experiences working in large and small groups involving students younger and older than me as well as several industry professionals. A few of these experiences range from
collaborating in small groups partaking in a design competition within my design studio
partnering with the City of Rosemount to create a report of a prospective housing development
designing new ways to deliver information in a manner that would easily accessible by the public to inform them of important issues within their community with the City of North St. Paul
balance working on several projects at once while adhering to tight deadlines
distilling lengthy research notes into reports later submitted to my supervisor
They say curiosity killed the cat but that old adage has never stopped me from marching forward and seeing what lies just beyond the horizon. I’ve always been curious about the world around me since I was a little boy and that is what initially drew me to study design in Architecture and eventually Housing Studies. I wanted to know why the built environment was the way it was and what forces shaped our environment into the structures we see today.
The greatest lesson I learned during my time at the University of Minnesota was to never cease asking questions. My peers, instructors and family have instilled a drive to continue learning. There’s alway a new hilltop or horizon to go to.
