With a 2:1 BA(Hons) Degree in Transport Design, much of my early experience was transport related with an initial internship at Land Rover Advanced Design. However, my design skills have grown considerably since then.
I happily got straight into design for manufacture, landing a role as a Furniture Designer for a Midlands based office furniture manufacturer. In my 4 years there I scrubbed up the SolidWorks skills, tackled design for sheet steel, injection moulding, concept prototyping, rapid prototyping and even joinery, collaborating with some top London based customers, suppliers and furniture makers. I also got heavily involved in environmental CAD rendering putting furniture in client spaces. Architecture and interior design quickly became of great interest and I moved on to pastures new to focus on this new passion.
Now I find myself working as a surface pattern and effects designer, for a market leading global flooring manufacturer; still with one foot in the studio and one foot in the factory, but travelling, meeting with clients around the world, attending trend seminars and designing exhibition stands for expos around the world; all while learning much more about the world of residential and commercial interiors.
This may seem an odd mix of experiences and skills in such a short career, but my lust for all things design, makes me an individual eager to experience even more of the working design process and who relishes the opportunity to take on challenges from all of the design sectors. It all comes down to the fact that I am an inquisitive, fast learner who loves to absorb new information, take on new skills, and thrives on the thrill of a deadline!
