My name is Eric Franer. I am a recent graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors degree in Industrial design from the DAAP program, which is currently the top ranked school in the nation. I have experience at a variety of companies, ranging from medical device design to character design.
I have always loved to draw but when the time came to choose my major, I wasn't sure what to do. I was unfamiliar with design majors, but eventually I was introduced to the field of Industrial Design. I was enamored with the prospect of designing a product that would improve people's lives and to be able to look at my design on a store shelf and know what went into making that concept a reality.
I am also an avid movie goer and gamer. Ever since I saw Jurassic Park, I was fascinated with creature design. I would watch any movie if it had the promise of featuring a cool monster. Since I started at DAAP I have applied the skills I have learned to my creature sketches and designs. My work has been featured in the online card game Coraabia.
For my capstone project at DAAP I did a world building concept art project framed as a video game proposal. I placed 3rd for IDSA at the senior show and it is the first time that an entertainment design project has ever won. They are planning on using the entertainment design projects this year to set a framework for a potential Concept art program within Industrial Design at DAAP, which it is currently lacking.
Awarded bronze for my capstone project, Experiment 18, by IDSA at DAAPworks 2015.
