Footwear Designer
G H Warner
Apr 2011 - Aug 2013 (2 years 4 months)
I was the main designer for the men’s and boys footwear ranges. This has included designing Hikers, Joggers, Hi-Tops and Vulcanised styles. I have also designed for infant boys, girls and ladies. This has broadened my skills using different materials, shapes and colours. Working with synthetics and various shoe constructions had been challenging and honed my eye for commercial footwear. I have designed for the high street for customers such as ASDA, Brantano and Shoezone. Focusing on all aspects of the shoe and making it look more than its parts was important. I often start a project with drawings, but also enjoy designing straight into Illustrator.
I travelled to China on average 2 times a season to help with designing. I have been to markets to source new materials, and outsole manufacturers to find new units and treatments. I have been to factories to see the process and work with the footwear in their showrooms. This was done both as a team and independently when necessary. With colleagues I have also been on inspiration trips to Tokyo, Hong Kong and Amsterdam. It has been really useful to see different product and cultures, what is worn and where it is sold.
I have excellent knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and can learn new ways of working with them quickly. I regularly communicated via email to colleagues out in China, organising samples and solving any problems. I enjoy researching on the internet and the street, using a wide range of sources to inform my designing and keep it relevant and on trend. This is ongoing and keeps me inspired.

Assistant Manager
Sports Direct International
Jan 2010 - Mar 2011 (1 year 2 months)
Field and Trek is where I really learnt the value of great outdoor footwear, clothing and equipment. I used to support a team in sales and customer service. I enjoyed talking to customers and helping them make informed decisions. I would compare different brands and product, examining the details to see what worked well. Learning about each product was important so that I could advise customers with confidence.
