Currently, I am a student of UC Berkeley pursuing a Master of Engineering Leadership in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Product Design.
I discovered my passion for product design recently when I got introduced to design thinking. Product design nowadays has taken a radical shift from design for consumerism, ergonomics and fashion to design of meaningful experiences as the CEO of IDEO, Tim Brown, has stated. Today, a successful product is one that meets an actual need of the user and to understand the need we have to be able to put ourselves in the user's place and experience what he experiences. This kind of design requires not only creativity, a skill that can be trained, but also mainly empathy. Luckily, empathy is a trait that I inherently have and I enjoy practicing. Indeed I love reaching out to people, engaging them in conversations and understanding how they think and what they want. I aspire to a career in Product Design for it will allow me to apply that skill to make design decisions that are not only based on aesthetic but also on a true understanding of the end user.
