In his role as an industrial designer, David Clarkin creates new forms and shapes for food, beverage and personal care packaging to help communicate their brand story to consumers. Previously, he designed engaging trade show booths, eye-catching retail displays and modular store fixtures and engineered clever structural packaging.
He has used his extensive knowledge of spacial design, graphic design, and manufacturing to achieve rich experiences in a cost-effective package. He has proven himself in the fast-paced environment, where he has managed up to dozens of projects per month.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, minor in Graphic Design, at the University of Bridgeport in 2013, placing top in his class.
Throughout his career and studies, he explored how to define 'good design' and how to apply these principles in a wide range of projects. His favorite category of design is furniture where, during school, he used interesting materials and elegant construction to create new and distinctive furniture.
PHILOSOPHY OF DESIGN
A well designed product or process is:
Appropriate - It questions the context of the problem, considering solutions outside of the product or process where a more fitting solution may be found. It keeps to aesthetics appropriate for its use and setting.
Intuitive - It explains its function by its form and markings. The organization of physical and digital interactive elements (a knob, button, gesture, etc.) logically corresponds with the purpose.
Elegant - It takes an effortless form and construction, while keeping the proper aesthetic. It requires the least amount of interaction from the user to achieve its goal.
Conscientious - It considers issues of ethics and looks for ways to reduce environmental impact. Every step from production, to transportation, to storage, to purchase, to setup and use, to disposal provides an opportunity for innovation.
Well-Crafted - For its purpose, it strives for the highest possible quality. It pays attention to fine details of material choice, color and texture. When appropriate, it endures as long a life as possible.
Satisfying - It solves the user’s need and appeals to human emotion. It provides financial viability for the producer or provider.
