I have recently founded Studio Cassells a multidisciplinary design studio specializing in Object and Environment design. We collaborate with clients from Asia to Europe on a diverse variety of projects including cultural and commercial exhibition design, temporary architecture, sculptural installations, product and furniture design and design research.
Based in Hong Kong, Studio Cassells acts as a specialist design department for larger Museum Design Consultancies and Creative Agencies who require the expertise of external design consultants.
As founder of the company my role includes, client management, contractor management, concept design, detail design and creative direction of the team of design contractors.

In mid 2011 I relocated to Shanghai to be involved as a design consultant in a range of exhibition design and retail environment projects. Foremost of which was the concept design of the ‘Shanghai Film Museum’ a 10,000 square meter exhibition narrating the history of film making in Shanghai.
Other significant projects include; Schiesser retail design concept, applied to 300 stores throughout China, BentleyLaunch Party Shanghai 2012, VW Malaysia Beetle Launch 2012,
My role during this time ranged from, Concept creation, directing a 15 person team of designers, Client Presentations, modeling and visualisation, and contractor management.

Exhibition Designer

I was previously contracted to Story Inc as Lead Designer on a variety of museum design projects. Story Inc is a Wellington based exhibition design company who’s work is showcased throughout New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and China. Story Inc focuses on a variety of media from museum exhibitions, to world expo pavilion design.
My role within the company is to create exhibition design concepts from initial visualisation through to final construction. My tasks included client meetings and presentations, concept generation and renders. Detailed design and contractor management. Management of illustrators, graphic designers and local artists.

Design Researcher, Tutor

I was previously employed as a Designer, Research and Tutor for Affect- 'the centre for affective design research’ a Massey University research centre. Affect focuses on connecting tertiary research with the design industry through affective product design. My role within the centre is to work on research and design projects sponsored by industry. Projects include; product lighting design for Fisher & Paykel, ergonomic research and development for Macpac.
Within a Research Project my role is to organise and plan the assignment, generating a body of Research. Liaise with the client, including presentations of design work and research. Create design concepts, renders and visualisation. Generate and facilitate prototypes.
Additional to my research for the centre, I also Coordinate and Tutor papers for the Industrial Design Department. Papers I have coordinated include; a 300 Level paper on Industrial Design Visualisation. This paper focuses on drawing techniques relevant to the industrial design process. This includes; concept sketching, Tablet, Photoshop and Illustrator Renders. My tasks for this paper include; planning the paper structure, writing the assignment briefs, preparing the lessons and tutorials, marking the assessments and overall student grades.
Other Papers I have tutored include Industrial Design Studio Four, a 300 Level design studio paper, focused on the development of an electronic portable communications device. Areas covered in the paper include forecasting technology, Interface design, Ergonomic Interaction, Product Styling, and Design for Manufacture.

Event / Exhibition Designer

For just under two years I have worked as a designer for Orient Events, an event design consultancy based in Hong Kong. Orient Events specialises in designing, constructing and facilitating events for high end clientele. These include fashion shows, launch parties, exhibitions and corporate events. During my time there I have worked with such clients as; Chanel, Cartier, Stella McCartney, Dom-Perignon, Google, You Tube, and HSBC. My work for the company was shown in cities such as; Hong Kong, Beijing, Lyon and Paris.
My role within the company was to create event and exhibition design concepts from initial visualisation through to final construction. My tasks included client meetings and presentations, concept generation and renders, technical drawings, contractor and build management and onsite quality control.
