The idea came while I was working on the Fuse exhibition in New York. The Fuse sub-theme I had to work with was "refuse." So I created a group of mugs that fit neatly together in a pie sort of arrangement, but because their handles are turned inward to create the nifty pie-shape grouping, they are "refusing" to be picked up.
I created a plaster mould from which the mugs were slip cast.
It started out as a whimsical fine art piece and ended up being mass produced and featured in Graphis Design Magazine.
