Kitchen & Dining Room Design Using Reclaimed Materials

My wife and I live in a historic Victorian style home that has been in our family, but was previously being used as office space. There was no kitchen, so I had to create one.

I began by installing a floor made of reclaimed wood. Areas where the knots in the wood were completely knocked out, I filled in with pebbles and moss and finished with clear resin.

On the sink/counter/fridge side of the kitchen, reclaimed rough hewn wood made great drawer faces. Old windows served as upper cabinet doors. And our huge sink arrived in a huge sheet of steel which I welded into the sink and countertops.

I designed vintage style sideboards to go with an old Chambers stove we found. I used walnut and pine, and made the tops out of slate from an old pool table. The legs are parts from an old furnace.

The upper cabinet doors are old windows and the side mosaic tile is reclaimed.

The dining room table is an old trough I found in the basement and a custom glass top. Stay tuned for seating design.
