That girl with the odd name.
... and that odd name is not a spelling error.
I’d like to think that Crys is a pretty cool name actually, although I have been teased throughout my childhood with nicknames that rhyme with it. Now as a 27-year-old grown-up, no one finds that amusing anymore. Bummer.
After graduating from Raffles Design College Of Design And Commerce with a BA in Visual Communications, I stepped into the working world as an advertisement designer for Singapore Press Holdings. Not exactly what I planned for, but my current job is pretty awesome, I must say.
And how did I get drawn into the design field? It happened one day when my Math teacher chided me for doodling on my friend’s table instead of paying attention to her drowsy algebra formula. It was then decided that I would rather stick with shapes than numbers for the rest of my life. The funny thing is, after leaving secondary school, I got into Interactive Media Design in Polytechnic. It was fun initially because hey, kids are supposed to be optimistic. And then, imagine the horror when I see java scripts and html staring at me from the computer screen. I bade farewell to Interactive Media Design and eloped with graphic design to greener pastures.
When I’m not being that annoying design geek who complains too much about bad design, I read religiously, enjoy a good kimchi soup, like observing commuters’ shoes in the train, love wasting my time on various social media platforms, planning travel itineraries, collecting magazines, buying shoes, eating pancakes in a pizza-manner, sleeping with the night light on, discovering new music, and meeting new people.
There, my entire life story in just a page.
