Loop the Loupe

This was a simple but bold project. In class, we were given a single loupe magnifying glass lens and were told to completely design the body around it.

Using SolidWorks' 3D modeling program, I created a file for a hand-held loupe assembly design which would be versatile and easy to handle. The file included two symmetrical pieces (tailored to the dimensions of the loupe's lens) with nesting-type joinery which served to align the pieces during assembly.

The file was then printed out using a 3D printer, and I sanded the plastic body, painted it, inserted the lens, finished it, and voila' - then magnified with it!
