I worked as a reliability engineer this last summer who aided one of the engineers with starting a new project. I started a project where the goal was to make every lubrication point in the plant uniform and to eventually use only food grade lubricants. There was more than 16,000 parts that were previously know that I had to place in my live audit of the factory. I learned about every process and dealt with all pieces of machinery in the plant (which covers all three divisions: Fruit, Cereal, and Desserts). I also helped another summer engineer with deciding on an energy saving plan that Alliant Energy was offering. With it General mills could save up to and extra $100,000 a year in energy savings.
