Our boat was manned by seven people (some of my friends). We would of had room for eight people but our seventh guy is 7ft tall and he needed as much room as possible.
The boat was made of almost entirely out of card board, calk, paint, and emergency duck tape. It took me a long laborious week to complete the boat, but i managed to finish it the day before the race. I did most of the design layout and team management while getting some help from my friends.
After finishing the boat, we soon realized that it never had a name yet. All we knew about the boat is that we were glad that we made it in time for the race (even if it didnt float). So at the last second we managed to give it the name "It Wuz Worth It".
Each race had four boats going at one time for the course. But it didn't matter if you got first or last in your heat because in order to move on in the rounds your team must have the top times from all the heats. After our first race, we got first place in our heat as well as making it to the second round.
The shot here is from our second race. Unfortunately some other teams were not the best drivers of there crafts, so they ended up running into us a lot to slow us down.
Even though we got hit multiple times from other teams, we were all determined to win. We ended up getting first place in the second heat and beating our old time. But sadly, it was not in the top times. We were eliminated from the rest of the races.
Our team here didn't care that we were done with the race. We were just happy to have a great day having fun. Listing the people from left to right: Kevin, Kris, Dustin, Nick, Kyle, Marshall, Me.
We ended up waiting for the winners of the races and soon found out that our team had won the "Team Spirit Award" for being the most vocal and excited during the races. At the end of the day "It Wuz Worth It" had more than one meaning to us.
People can be as serious or silly as they want to be. People dress in costumes and race in other divisions if they want to. This one here is based of the older cartoon "The Flintstones".
This boat is based off the Beatles Yellow Submarine Song. Each year the boats get more creative. I love this race and hope to attend as many as I can.

Cardboard Boat Race

In Cedar Rapids Iowa, in the week of the fourth of July, there is a Freedom Festivle that is hosted each year. One of the events that goes on is the annual Cardboard Boat Races! In 2011 I managed a team and created our boat with the name "It Wuz Worth It".
