I take sketches/ideas for custom pieces and model them in Gemvision Matrix so that a 3d print can be made for lost wax casting. From there the Jeweler takes over setting stones and finishing the piece.

UCS
May 2013 - Aug 2013 (3 months)
UCS is the premiere track and field equipment manufacturer in the US, during the summer of 2013 I was given the opportunity to Intern for them. During my time there, I was given an outline for a new piece of equipment that the owners had in mind and told "go". From there I went through the design process to develop a new type of cart that aids in the transport and placement of hurdles for track and field events.
When the final concept was approved, I began to work with a rotomold engineer to bring the concept to a manufacturable form. I learned a lot about designing for rotational molding, and accounting for the inevitable shrink/grow rate of parts when they are taken out of the mold.
When my internship was complete, I left there with a better sense of design for manufacture, and a good possibility that the project I worked on might be in production in the next year or so. This was a great experience and I enjoyed my time interning there.
