Grand Canyon Visitor Center
These exhibits were designed for the 5,400-square-foot exhibit area at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National park, and it was anticipated that they would receive more than one million visitors a year and up to 1,000 visitors an hour. As a result, an important criterion was that exhibits engage visitors on primary park themes, but only for a short amount of time to avoid building congestion. In addition, exhibits needed to withstand intense use.
In developing the exhibits, front-end and formative evaluations were completed to inform and refine the exhibit direction. A summative evaluation after the visitor center opened to the public found the exhibits engaging, popular, and effective.
