Nicholas Lim

At one of Christchurch's largest and most popular backpacker hostels, I handled bookings and guest relations on a work-for accommodation arrangement. My colleagues and I made our guests' time as comfortable as possible and helped them with directions, transport options and suggestions on places to eat and things to see and do. I also handled late-night enquiries and helped to promote in-house activities. My work contributed to and maintained the hostel's >80% rating on Hostelworld (>85% for staff) and its 4/5 rating on Trip Advisor.

Happy Jewellery is one of the few jewellers in Singapore that still handcrafts pieces. Many commissions come from the likes of Dehres, Afghan-Malaya Trading Company, Mondial Jewellers and Glajz-THG. My responsibilities were to:

- Build and render jewellery settings using computer-aided design (Gemvision Matrix)
- Manage and refine rapid prototyping processes and maintain 3D printing equipment
- Worked with the director on the design of in-house products and client commissions
- Guide colleagues in the use of computer-aided design and improve their understanding
- Use laser engraving equipment to make hallmarks
- Procure exhibition space at the Singapore International Jewellery Expo 2013

As a result of my contributions to the company's CAD and rapid prototyping processes, it is able to handle more commissions, produce intricate pieces with very refined settings and create unique engravings for its clients and other jewellery workshops in Singapore.

Art Boot Camp runs two studios in Singapore and holds weekly art classes, holiday camps and birthday parties for children of different age groups, including teenagers and 3 - 5 year olds, It aims to instil passion, discipline and leadership through these activities. As a facilitator, my responsibilities were to:

- Assist in the planning and running of art classes for children between the ages of 5 and 12
- Teach painting, drawing and craft skills to pupils
- Give parents feedback on the progress of their children
- Facilitate birthday parties and holiday workshops
- Conduct advanced classes under the Vanguard programme
