Renata Pugh

As a child, Renata Pugh drew obsessively-whether on paper, walls, or herself if nothing else was available. After high school, she enrolled in School of Visual Arts in New York and graduated with a BFA in Illustration in 2004. While attending SVA, she discovered her passion for printmaking, (namely monoprinting) and has employed this medium the most for turning her sketches into completed works. She has worked as a muralist, a storyboard artist for TV, and currently subcontracts for Steve Tatti, an art conservator in Manhattan. (Visit www.stevetatti.com for more information.) Mainly working as a sculpture restorer, Ms. Pugh's interest in the medium has steadily grown, leading her to create sculptures which combine classical realism with the imagery found in her drawings and monoprints. She has exhibited her pieces at the Art Students League of NY, where she began studying in 2009 and discovered a passion for plasma cutting and welding. In 2011 she was nominated and selected as one of the 2nd year recipients of the Model to Monument Grant, a 9-month public art career education program offered through the Art Students League, in which the participants must design large-scale sculptures that are installed and on view in Riverside Park South from June through May of the following year.
