My passion for the Arts/ Fashion started at a very young age. It grew from Sports to Art followed by History, Fashion photography and settled down comfortable on Fashion. However, the change of my first passion was brutal and I believe fashion was the remedy to it. At a young age, our brain was most probably governed by cartoons and the thoughts of chugging down soft drinks and candies, therefore, things such as our social circles, what do you talk about or behavior, requires no thought processes because it will just happen. My social circle was ‘fortunately’ different from any other boys. Strangely, I was able to interact more comfortably with girls compared to the boys and it made me infamous in school. However, it did not change my initial interest, which was soccer. The first day of training was also my last day. The judgmental eyes that I received from the whole crowd gave me a strong and rude assurance that sports was not my calling.
Eventually, I found Fashion and it was truly a defining moment of my life. With Fashion, I was able to make sense out of everything. It is a force that is able to read your past and permeates itself accordingly through your mind. The boundlessness, morbidity and beauty of Fashion lured me so deeply that I could not see myself doing anything other than this. It gave me confidence, a drive to learn and provided me a purpose in life.
The particular incident that I mentioned before is the core of my design; the heart.
My purpose is to create tangible feelings and emotions such as empowerment, bravery and confidence through garments and accessories. It is a form of gratitude towards Fashion. My designs also are perceptive and experimental. Just like how I was able to move on from soccer to the end of the spectrum, which is Fashion, truly reflects my willingness to try something completely new and different.
It has become second nature for me to conceptualise everything that I do and I am a strong believer of ‘everything happens for a reason’.
