The Elephant Dream concept showcases my ability to take two contradicting inspirations and create one cohesive line. I chose the art piece by John Grade "elephant bed", an artist who creates art through deconstruction, and countered it with the strong structural elements of New York City. Through John Grades piece I developed a neutral color pallet, whimsical silhouettes, and natural, rough textures and fabrics. Through New York I added structured edges reminiscent of the strong buildings and streets grids, as well as the fashion forward painted silks that emphasize the linear inspiration. This line is intended for the fashion forward young business woman who wants her clothes to be not only a stand out in her business life but also outside the office. I am currently in the process of creating this line for showings.
