Maple + Cherry Butt Jointed Box
Call it a simple box..or a glorified tray but it's a functional yet playful project of contrasts...woodworking's equivalent of salty and sweet. The dark, reddish-brown Cherry ends give way to bright Maple accented with Cherry. I chose to use the "bad side" of the quarter-inch plywood for the bottom to continue with the salty/sweet, dark/light theme.
As for construction notables, I glued thin stripes of raw Cherry to the Cherry side pieces instead of using edge banding tape then, once constructed sanded sides into the Maple front/back pieces. The bottom panel slides into a four-sided dado groove. Finished with Howard's Paste Wax.
