Junior 3D Design Engineer
Clarks International
I have recently become the main CAD contact for children's shoe developments, focussing on creating 3D sole models and keeping records of all children's units being developed by the CAD team. I manage the schedule for myself and two other people to ensure all developments are completed on time. I also liaise with the rapid prototyping team to request any 3D printed models and flexible units to be created and either posted to factories or combined on site with sample uppers. I understand the various construction methods used in shoe making and the limitations each of these impose on the design. These are discussed with designers during the brief to ensure the proposed design is achievable. Once a design has been signed off I compile release documentation to send to factories, meeting moulding deadlines. Between developments I work on projects for the innovations team or spend time expanding my knowledge by researching other functions of the software such as learning FEA, rendering and researching how to create HRDi's. I have also recently been learning how to create texture plates which are used to imprint a texture to the sole model. Foot Gauge I was involved in the design of the Clarks At Home Foot Gauge taking into consideration usability and maintaining the brand image while sticking to the set budget. One of the main factors affecting the design was ensuring that the components were suitable for injection moulding and needing minimal post production finishing and assembly.
