Principal Designer
D3O
London, United Kingdom
2011 - Present (14 years)
I lead a team of Designers and Engineers taking responsibility for all product developments. We work with multiple partners across different sectors including Sports, automotive, footwear, electronics, military and PPE.
Projects range from delivering complex blunt trauma head protection systems to products for mobile phones and hand held electrical devices. I am experienced in taking projects through the full design process including working with customers to build a brief and specification, 2D hand sketching and rendering for initial concept generation before moving into development and fabricating prototypes for review. I work extensively with CAD, producing parts for evaluation and production tooling. I am also responsible for developments of new manufacturing processes and technologies which have enabled the company to expand its portfolio and enter new markets. Some of these products and processes have achieved patent applications and IP for the company. My role often requires traveling to Asia working with our factories on these new tooling methods and processes to ensure a successful transfer into production. This has provided me with unique knowledge on the materials and processes for foam part manufacture and the integration of TPU films.
I am responsible for leading projects, ensuring they are on time, within budget and to the brief. I use project management tools and processes to manage time, cost and quality. I am responsible for reviewing and reporting risks to management, identifying these at the earliest point and implementing solutions to avoid project issues. This involves working with all departments, coordinating material developments, test programs and design to achieve our goals.

Senior Designer
Connaught Motors
Llanelli, United Kingdom
2005 - 2009 (4 years)
As a senior designer my role was to work as part of a small team to progress the vehicle development from the scale model stage to a working preproduction vehicle. This included the exterior, interior and a unique hybrid engine program. My role was to provide design input considering aesthetics, function and fit of components from initial concepts through to development with analysis of hard points, ergonomic review with software and physical buck building, and final designs and presentations to colleagues and investors. I would actively take part in the first fit of exterior and interiors to gain a solid understanding of how the parts practically fitted together whilst capturing any issues to feedback to the team. I gained a lot of valued knowledge in processes for both prototypes, small volumes and mass production working with manufactures and suppliers. This included composites, sheet metal, soft trim, fixings and fasteners.
