My name is Westley Huisenga. The name Westley means from the west meadows, but I don't come from that direction at all. In fact I hail from lands in the southwest, of Chicago, which technically was a meadow. Huisenga is of Dutch heritage. I found many meanings of this surname. From - Frisian, habitational name, To - Brewster, referring to a female brewer. But my favorite was the literal translation of three words drawn from the name, - "Huis eng a" = A scary house. Now I admit my appearance may be a bit foreboding, but I am no house!
...Perhaps it explains my natural relaxed and comforting demeanor, meeting my fierce desire to succeed, in the colorful meadows of the west...
Now for a more formal summary,
My youth was spent gathering inspiration, always admiring and re-creating my favorite illustrations. As a young teen in high school I began taking an interest in printing arts. Fostered by a position obtained at a local print shop, I considered a life in printmaking.
I attended Governors State University, where I studied all forms of printmaking, and minored in sculpture arts for 2 years.
Never able to settle in one practice, I decided that graphic design would allow me to marry all my passions into one unified form. I attended The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago, where I obtained my Bachelors degree in Visual Communications in September 2012.
My personal design aesthetics lean toward crisp, clean, and uncrowded. I focus on the fine detail, and strongly believe in concept before creation. I offer a variety of services to clients, sharing my strengths in Advertising, Branding, Information Design, Package Design, Web Materials, and Collateral Packages. I also offer my services in Concept Creation, Illustration, and Photography. Contact me any time by email.
Currently I am Freelancing various projects, from infographics to web materials, and attempting to bolster my appearance in the design community present throughout Chicago.
