Tobacco Free Oswego

My current employer came to me with a challenge. He recently became part of a committee that had the task of spreading awareness of SUNY Oswego’s smoke-free campaign, and he wanted me to take charge of the copy, graphics, and logo.

I feel like this type of opportunity is something graphic designers dream of. Probably the most fun thing of this campaign was that we weren’t telling people to smoke or not to smoke, but that it was happening, they just had to prepare themselves.

The logo had around 20 treatments before we boiled it down to the following, few choices. The smushed out cigarette butt had all the elements of what we were trying to voice, as well as incorporating the school’s colors.

The supporting materials were literature to help existing smokers gain access to quitting services, and a few billboards, one with a countdown clock letting smokers know when the deadline to kicking the habit would be.
