The Real Annabel Lee
The task here was to illustrate a story using only type. The concept ultimately revolves around the idea that the poem's narrator was not truthful. What was more likely was the speaker loved this girl, but her family forbid it. He then killed her because he could not have her. That dichotomy plays out throughout the design of the book through an understated layout of the stanza vs. the detailed illustrations of the truth of the poem on the right; use of only black and white; rough, masculine canvas paper and fabric cover vs. smooth, feminine ribbon.
