I was asked to produce a personalized napkin ring for a friend as a christening present. I designed a ring to say P J Mahon. I produced a 1:1 scale drawing in AutoCAD and printed it on self adhesive paper.
I then made the ring from copper as a prototype to see how it looked, and whether it was more legible with the text in either positive or negative. So the drawing was stuck to the material, then the profile was cut and the rolled in to the ring. finally it was soldiers together and polished. Here you can see the three versions. Copper positive text on the left, copper negative text on the right and the final piece in silver with positive text in the middle.
I presented it in a recycled card box and supplied it with a personalized napkin to complete.
Since my first ring I have manufactured 6 others. Another request was a Mr and Mrs set for a wedding present.
This features a planished finished.
