I was not a fan of the original seats in my 1959 Ford as they were small, uncomfortable and also were hard to stay on whilst cornering, especially as there are no seat belts in this car. I enlisted the advice and facilities of a good friend of mine, Adam Barmby, to assist me with the new design.
This is the prototype mould made of polystyrene covered in filler to shape
Here you can see the pen line of the desired finished product.
As Adam intended to make more of these seats for his business (BAMD Ltd), we made the female mould much larger than my finished product. The mould was constructed from wet lay up glass fiber and reinforced with plywood sheet. The mould splits down the centre line for easy removal of the finished product
And this is the result. The first bespoke seat out of the mould. This has been cut to my desired profile. This again was constructed from wet lay up glass fiber with a black gel coat.
There are inserts in the layers of glass fiber to give strength and rigidity
And this is the finished result. Fully trimmed with padded and removable base cushion, trimmed in the same cream vinyl as the headlining door cards and dash trim.

Bespoke Car Seats 2010

For My Ford 100E Project I wanted new front seats that would be more comfortable and stylish but still in keeping with the period look of the car.
