With an ever evolving passion for design and analytical skills that compliment my creative flare, I am thoroughly immersed in my product design course at Brighton University. The thought of beginning my career in the design industry excites me and I am eager to see a project materialize in to a consumers world.
In previous employment, I have undertaken a number of customer service roles and this has enabled me to develop excellent skills in understanding customer needs as well as learning the importance of exceeding expectations, which I believe is the key to a successful business rapport. My skills and in-depth understanding of these concepts helped me to achieve top sales person out of 200 employees in a credit card department of Citibank UK when I was 19.
I am a keen traveller and have backpacked through over 15 countries. This experience has been invaluable in building my understanding of cultural and social distinctions, which has led me naturally to a fascination for marketing and product diversity between nations. Following working in varying roles within financial firms over a period of 3 years, I have developed a great sense of respect for legislation, rules and professionalism and I am keen to focus this towards the design industry.
in 2009, I realised that I needed to follow my passion for creativity and innovation and I was inspired by a career in product design, where ultimately I will also be able to use the combination of skills I have gathered throughout the years to provide a meaningful, second-to-none design service to customers, clients and employers.
This led me to apply for product design degrees at a number of universities, eventually deciding that the University of Brighton was the perfect setting to compliment my creative skills. Even though my previous employment roles did not allow for much creativity and having been away from studying for a period of time, I knew that applying to and gaining a place at university would not necessarily be easy. Therefore, in order to achieve a place at university, I set myself projects and focused carefully on learning all I could about the design industry and improving my design skills over a period of 6 months. Ultimately, the hard work paid off and I was given unconditional offers at the 3 universities I had applied to: Coventry, De Montfort and Brighton.
2 years into my degree at Brighton, I have learned many skills including, prototyping methods such as 3D printing, machining and moulding, a diverse knowledge of 3D modelling software including Rhino 3D, Solidworks, 3DS Max and rendering with Maxwell Studio, and a vast amount of knowledge and experience of the Design Processes. I am now looking to further my career prospects by gaining as much work experience as possible before I graduate in 2014.
