Artist Statement: Porsha Webb
A special gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. I was gifted with the ability to use my hands to sketch images to develop printed fabric. After pursuing a career in the fashion industry, I knew I needed to continue my career creating screen printed and digitally printed fabrics. Each fabric design begins with elements created by my hands including drawing, resist dying, and marbleizing. Working with different computer software, I create unique variations of repeat patterns and motifs. When designing prints for fabric, my inspiration comes from landscapes, my emotions, morphing objects to combine with the latest fashion trends. I draw inspiration from fashion icons such as Betsey Johnson and textile designer Alexander Henry who both utilize inspirational fabric designs to create wearable garments. I strive to have modern and chic prints for a variety of fabrics that can complement a wardrobe or home.
