To be a fashion designer is to make the world beautiful. To design is to inspire the people you are designing for and to help them see themselves and everything around them as beautiful, sexy, and unique. This is my goal as fashion/costume designer. It is always my concern to relay this simple message across when I create my designs. I am continuously drawn towards designing evening gowns and cocktail dresses as well as fashioning elaborate costumes. Elegance and sultriness is always present on all my designs.
My name is Paola Ferreira. I recently earned my Bachelors of Science in Fashion Design from Mount Ida College. Currently, I work at Mound Ida College as a teacher adjunct teaching fashion design. I teach CAD III (Gerber/Accumark), Advanced Construction and Computer Applications (photoshop and illustrator). Next semester, in addition to these classes, I will be teaching Draping II. I also work for the Boston Conservatory Costume shop as a Stitcher/ Draper as well as working freelance for Delicious of New York designing Halloween costumes to be mass produced. While still in college, I participated as a designer in the college’s Annual Spring Juried Fashion Show every year. I also have received the awards for Highest Achievement by a Third and Fourth Year Student as well as making Dean’s list throughout the duration of my junior and senior year. My skills include industrial machine, home sewing machine, hand stitching, draping, pattern making, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I am fond of drawing and designing original garments. Additionally, I have worked for 1 year with Denise Hajjar of Boston as Assistant Designer where I assisted in design decisions that range from selecting fabrics and fabric sourcing, to style lines and garment construction. I was responsible for technical packages, garment alterations as well as pattern making and fabric cutting. I supervised and delegated work to interns and helped to organize Denise Hajjar’s entire Fall and Spring collection fashion shows by trend researching, fabric sourcing and designing as well as styling pieces, dressing models and supervising model line-up the day of the shows. Lastly,I have over 3 years of retail experience with JCPenney and 5 years in total with other retail stores, where I have learned the importance of exceptional customer service and have increased my ability to recognize popular fashion trends.
I am extremely happy with all three of my jobs, but I am looking for that permanent job with opportunity for growth in either fashion or costume design.
