Freshman: Square Watermelons

Freshman year project, 2010. A combination of Industrial and Graphic design, we created a children's book and matching toy based off of 3 criteria.
Mine were Garden, Taste, & Form and shape.

The three criteria have been dressed repeatedly by the book content and design. The story revolves around the idea that square watermelons are the ideal shape for the watermelon-loving rabbits. The plush overcoat watermelon both protects the book, creates distinctive packaging, and gives child a toy to hold. The other toy is a “watermelon box” which has a compartment that can only be opened by the included rake- another lesson in using tools and shape. Inside the compartment is a watermelon growing kit so eventually they can grow and taste watermelons themselves.
