Industrial Design Intern | Bathing/Showering Division

During my internship, I worked in the bathing/showering division and was tasked with identifying opportunities and creating new compelling hydrotherapy experiences for consumers. Through ethnographic research and experience abroad travelling, I developed new concepts based on Turkish, Japanese, and Finnish bathing culture that generated much interest when presented at Kohler’s Annual Global New Product Schedule conference. I also developed a flexible bathtub designed for at-home water therapy through the playful interaction with the flexible tub walls that I was able to prototype and conduct human factors testing. Demonstrated excellent skills in research, concept sketching, rendering, prototyping, CAD modelling, visual storytelling, and creating compelling presentations of concepts.

Worked collaboratively with a pediatrician, phlebotomy lab technicians, and engineers to develop/protoype a pediatric phlebotomy chair to distract children and reduce anxiety during blood draws. Assisted in development of curriculum to educate Mayo employees how to apply design techniques to creatively solve problems in their workplace. Conducted first hand observational research with physicians and design researchers to identify opportunities to improve access to palliative care earlier for chronically ill patients. Presented research findings and concepts to the Palliative Care team at Mayo as well as to Physician director of the Center for Innovation.
