Holger Lange was born in Willingen/Germany. After completing a technical training course and then studying interior design, he worked at Möller Design as interior and product designer. His strong fascination with creativity is rooted and inspired by Friedrich Wilhelm Möller, whom counts as one of the most affluent figures in furniture-design history.
He was initiated into the profession in the early 1990s, and has since developed his skills independently as his contemporary work has become increasingly sought after. Highly regarded as an expert in his field, he subsequently worked in product development for high-profile manufacturers in the furniture industry and he has been responsible for over 150 projects for various international companys, including Möller Design, Doerfert, Assmann, FSB, Hettich, RTR, Hupfer, Lechner, Kettler, Bulthaup, deSede, Thonet, Kusch+Co and DEDON. One of the projects in which he played a major role was the rebuilding of the Hans Kaufeld of De Sede collection. From 2001 to 2011, he has been working as project and productmanager at Thonet and has been putting his wide-ranging experience in product development to good use. .
Last Years he worked for the Company DEDON as Manager Research + Development. In 2003, he founded his own design office ATELIERLANGE in order to realize his own design ideas. Many of its creations have received international design awards, among which the prestigious Red Dot, IF and Good design award.
Holger Lange describes his creative process as a mind adventure; free of any prejudice, animated only by enthusiasm, curiosity and optimism. This open minded attitude, combined with a peculiar sensibility for historical heritage, and a deep understanding for material, production process and market requirements, is clearly expressed in his creations and work method.
Today, he is one of the most respected design managers, influencing future generations with his innovative approach to design. The autodidactic designer is renowned for uniting German Bauhaus design traditions with modern Lifestyle functions and combining pure, simple lines with geometric shapes and organic expression from the bionic to get a timeless aesthetic.
His innovative, functional designs have been a good match for the simple Scandinavian style. He expresses great respect for the design approach of the German Bauhaus time. For example, the S 333 Cantilever sledge, which Holger Lange developed for Thonet and then got the famous IF-Award for Product design in 2007.
