I work great individually and exceptionally well in a collaborative or team environment with an eagerness to build relationships inside and outside the workplace. I enjoy working around people with parallel goals and interests as well as hearing and contributing to unique or opposing opinions that could lead to new, unexpected and eye opening directions. I bring decades of retail sales, operations and merchandising experience with a strong focus on the tiny details and a deep passion for quality. I have a multitude of strengths from creative problem solving, form development, and user experience to illustration, model making and an analytical and technical aptitude for software and hardware applications. Between those two pillars lie sketching, rendering, brainstorming, writing and storytelling. Any blanks left in those strengths, skills or proficiencies can be filled by my boundless appetite for higher learning. Overall they add up to make me a well-rounded and extremely capable industrial designer. In addition, I am also persuasive, reliable, flexible and adaptable with effective time management skills to achieve my goals consistently and respectfully. I maintain a healthy lifestyle (very few sick days, if any), am a non-smoker, do not succumb to screen addiction due to personal social media distractions and am an exceedingly hard worker that routinely goes above and beyond to satisfy my pursuit of quality. I develop new skills easily and only need to have directions explained to me once, maybe twice if it’s on a Mac—I’m a PC/Windows person that can be reached on an iPhone. Last but not least I am half Japanese on my mother’s side and lived in Okinawa for three years. I was there because of my father’s military service in the Air Force that dictated we move regularly which fortunately included another three year overseas stay in Germany where I studied German and received my high school diploma. Since then I’ve worked steadily to develop and advance my design understanding to a point that has sparked fascination in multiple artistic fields from animation and illustration to interior, advertising and graphic design. Eventually I set out to attain and proudly acquire a bachelor’s of fine arts degree in industrial design because I felt that direction embodied much of the artistic approaches and broad foundations of many of my recently appreciated creative aspirations. Traveling and living abroad were great opportunities and allowed me to see and experience early on the diversity and uniqueness of the world around us. It helped me see that great design can bridge the gap between language, culture and borders. To me, a good design is a result of a strong work ethic, rewarding sense of accomplishment and an unrelenting pursuit of quality with the belief that not only should a design be aesthetic but also provoke a positive feeling of repose and contentment. The world is a complex, confounding, yet remarkable place and I would love to make it a simpler and more enjoyable place for everyone to live in.
