Photo Editor
USTA
Aug 2013 - Sep 2013 (1 month)
I worked as a freelance photo editor at the 2013 US Open Championships in New York.
I worked alongside photographers in a team of editors on-site at the tournament to produce images for the USOpen.org website.
The bulk of my work consisted of ingesting and copying original images onto servers and networks and batch-adding metadata and tags using photo Mechanic software. I would then perform a series
of edits, from cropping images to predetermined sizes to correcting basic tonal and color-balance problems. I would make minimal adjustments to color, contrast and saturation and I provided real-time feedback to staff photographers as part of a quality control process.
In addition, I created daily photo galleries by match or by an individual theme, and I produced multi-photo images from use on the website's homepage when a specific need was identified by the editorial content team.
Around 80 of my photographs were used on the website throughout the tournament.

For three years I worked for Ackrill Media Group writing for up to six newspapers each week. I was shortlisted for the Feature Writer of the Year award at the Yorkshire Press Awards, and in 2009 I was highly commended in the Young Journalist of the Year category at the O2 Media Awards
I was responsible for writing news articles, sports stories and in-depth features for our weekly publications and I was instrumental in developing the newspaper’s growing website. I was the flagship newspaper's dedicated council and government reporter, and I also reported on everything from Crown Court murder trials and royal visits to new business openings and annual school education reports.

Sports Reporter
Sky
Jul 2008 - Jun 2009 (11 months)
At Sky Sports I produced online content for their website. I was responsible for writing stories, headlines and captions, editing and producing articles from contributors, sourcing audio and video from our partners and selecting images and agency copy from wire sources.
Most of my work focused on covering the English Premier League football beat. I provided real-time text commentary on a match, interacted with fans on the website and assigned fantasy rankings for every player's performances to be used throughout the site on its fantasy football gaming pages. I also wrote a match report and a subsequent article on the managers' post-match press conference.
In addition, I wrote rugby, cricket and athletics stories for the website.
