Adam Ruggles

Based in PDT’s Chicago studio and working with a tight knit group of designers while still having the support of a 130 member interdisciplinary team that spans 9 offices across 3 continents. Working in a wide breadth of product categories from smartphones and tablets to mHealth devices to hospital sterilization to contemporary architectural exteriors to ADA-compliant portable toilets.

Part of a collaborative environment, responsible for human factors, aesthetics, form, function and manufacturing considerations. Immersed in programs from research to final product realization, active role in all phases of design development including, brainstorming, ideation, concept visualization and revision, user preference research, and CAD data and control drawings.

Clients include 3M, Baxter, Covidien, Dell, Fellowes, Hu-Friedy, Samsung, Wilson, sustainable packaging solutions for Unilever, network communication devices for Westell, blood-processing systems for Haemonetics, and fluid pumping devices for Baxter.

Designed and sculpted kitchen cookware handles. Supported the design team in development of a kitchen vegetable steamer. Developed an electronic word game for children.

Conducted onsite design research within Podiatry offices. Developed systems charts and floor plans identifying both product opportunity and workflow improvement. Created concepts for Rahn Design Associates company website.

Supported design, research and engineering in the development of consumer and medical products.

Supported designers who specialize in spinal support. Given independent conceptual design project and developed 12 prototypes that were tested on patients.

Assigned to and supported designers in the Baby Gear Team. Observed mother panels and a child play lab. Involved in two intense week-long Deep Dives. Designed and presented an independent concept for a play environment that adapted and grew with the child.
