The project is basically to pay homage to the crafts and culture of India through a printed surface.
'Jamdani' is the inspiration that I have carried on for a project with Arvind Mills. The light and feathery sensation of the fabric, the clean motifs and the humble appeal are the characteristics that offers a lasting impression.
To carry the woven motifs as a printed surface I have cut bits and pieces of paper strips to explore the designs.
On the other hand I have also hand painted several designs as a part of my explorations.

Color ways in indigo for the denim line.
As for this project, the brief was to look for something 'Ahmedabadi' and translate it to a print on fabric. After a day long quest of clicking pictures around the city I have settled to this image of 'a cycle leaning against the blue wall'. This is a very common picture that one would see while roaming about the old city of Ahmedabad.
Instead of pasting the entire image as a print, I have abstracted the house as a plain blue backdrop. I have added the crows on the cycles as Ahmedabad has optimum amount of scavenging birds. And to create some drama and intensity on the print i have also added the old windows which beautifully exhibits themselves on the facades of walls. Lastly, a splash of white paint to achieve te textures of the peeling paint and the weathered walls.
