Here is my great-grandmother's mandolin, before and after restoration. It was a rigorous process: days of sanding (days!), learning how to correctly capture the sun-burst gradient of stains, and finally sealing the surface to prevent future damage and lock in the stain itself. She sounds amazing now, and looks immaculate in comparison to the sorry state that she was previously in.
